Camera Settings

I’ve noticed that a number of players have started using sports cameras at the Back Alley 3.0. I’m not going to tell you what kind of sports camera to buy, that’s entirely up to you. However, I can help you get the best out of your camera, as the Back Alley 3.0 has some very interesting lighting conditions.

Camera Settings:

  1. Change your camera’s colour encoding setting from NTSC to PAL.
  2. Set your camera’s white balance to 3200K. Warmer than this and everything white starts looking yellow; colder than this and everything white starts looking blue.

Everything else after that is entirely up to you, it’s whatever look you want. For my camera settings, and I’m using a GoPro Hero Black 7, see below.

[Nota Bene: These are my camera settings, so don’t bother sending me an email telling me how wrong I am.]

  • RES: 2.7k
  • FPS: 50
  • FOV: Superview
  • Low Light: N/A
  • Stabilisation: AUTO
  • ProTune: ON
  • Shutter: AUTO
  • EV Comp: 0
  • White Balance: 3200K
  • ISO Min: 100
  • ISO Max: 200
  • Sharpness: Medium
  • Colour: FLAT

After an event, straight from your camera, all of your footage should look like this.

I’m using Final Cut Pro X (10.4.3). You can use whatever video editor you want, it’s entirely up to you. Once you’ve uploaded the video into your editor, just press the “Balance Colour” button on your video clip and you’ll get something like this.

Once you’ve coloured everything to your liking, you’ll get something like this.

Have a look at the RPG parade to make sure everything is coloured naturally.

Nota Bene: In the video editor, the more changes you make to the video clips with regards the colour and lighting, the more video noise you’ll add to the overall look.

If you have any questions or comments about your camera and camera settings, just send me an email or call. You can also visit the gamesite, event dates you can find from the game calendar: https://www.backalley.fi/viikkopelit.
